Evaluating the Impact of an Electronic Health Record System on Outpatient Clinic Practices

Dan Morrow and Karen Dunn Lopez

The project is investigating effects of a new Electronic Health Record system at Carle, focusing on the impact of a change in EHR system on how clinicians in the Carle Convenient Care Clinic manage and communicate information needed for patient care. Researchers are studying patient care activities related to clinician information management, communication, and decision making before and after implementation of the new EHR system.

Preliminary analyses of the project was reported during a poster session at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology Open House held on March 8-9, 2013. To learn more about the research please see the poster, Differential Effects of an Electronic Health Record System Change on Physician and Nursing Workload in an Urgent/Convenient Care Clinic, research by Chieh-Li Chin, Karen Dunn Lopez, Mike Vahldick, Rachael Ramsey, Jordan Petry, William Schuh, and Daniel Morrow.
